zygmunt freud's quotes? An egoist then?
OK then, to call a god 'egoist', any god, it's somehow... -

"But You, O Lord, shall laugh at them;... " (Psalm 59:8, NKJV)
Thi is not an "example of Jesus sense of humour"!
The meaning of "laugh" is different than "humor" or "comic", because God is spirit...!Bible does not use vague and confusing terms, like “HUMOR” ...!
From God, through His spirit, we receive such (well defined) gifts/'fruits': love, JOY, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, etc.
The JOY can be easy combined with GLADNESS (but not with “humor”…). See verses like:
Deuteronomy 28:47, Esther 8:16-17, Psalm 51:8, 105:43, Isaiah 35:10, 51:3, 51:11, etc. -

The Ten Commandments state GOD is a jealous god. And, there are instances of HIM being angry and vengeful. Yet, HE must have love, too, for HE "gave his only begotten son" for us. How can you claim he doesn't have playful or comic emotions when he has displayed a range of other emotions?
Daniel, do you judge God as a man?!?!
"The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians 2:14) -

OK then, to call a god 'egoist', any god, it's somehow...It's another kind of JEALOUSY...(a divine one)! See for example James 4:5(TNIV):
“Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us?”()
"Footnotes: () Or that the spirit he caused to dwell in us envies intensely; or that the Spirit he caused to dwell in us longs jealously" -

An egoist God. I mean... The Egoist.
Three religions coming from the same place.
All these other billions of people... what about them, are they lost souls?
This I can not believe. By all means. Especially when thinking that people under these three well known religions made the worst crimes ever. -
Excuse me if I point out the bleeding-obvious...
God is nobody's individual 'God'.
Logically God can not 'belong' to anyone.
So IF God exists then God will be different from EVERYONE'S perception - absolutely everyone's - no matter how 'devoted' you might think you are.
So why argue about it at all - it can never be resolved - at least not here on Earth ?
So, believe in your own version[s] of God [if you must], but please leave others to believe in their own version[s] [or 'none'] if they wish to...
'Your' own 'God' is supposedly 'bigger than all of us' [I do hope so!], so let us give God some breathing room and thereby get on with our dreary lives.... and leave God in peace, to get on with whatever it is that God does [which of course we could never really know of anyway [EVER] !"]...

hmmm, TIG, logical enough. So why was the title of the thread changed to "and Gods"? With multiple Gods, it seems that some of them can be personal, kind of like the ancient Greek gods.

God exists, because His work is perceptible, and tells us greatly...! Each of us believes that his/her own God is the true one (is That Who created and controls everything), but, because there can be Only One (others are false gods, idols...), means that each of us must check the veracity of respective faith.
If your faith do not provide your salvation, and not changed your life, you have to change that useless faith! -
'useless faith'! Cornel I don't believe any faith is useless. Faith in any form has to be respected. As far as I'm concerned and as TIG says above as long as each gets on with his own beliefs, whats the problem?
Andy, I changed the topic title from God to Gods! If there is a God entity, who is to say there is only one. In Christian belief I was taught there is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit if I remember correctly! That adds up to three. I was also encouraged to believe that the three were one but I'm not capable of comprehending that concept and no human is capable either!
But again, I'm getting tired of this topic just revolving around the biblical God. Its a pity that we don't have members of other faiths that can cast some light on their beliefs or non beliefs. I for one would like to learn more abiut other faiths.

@ Mike L.
I have not expressed that some'form of faith' do not be RESPECTED, but to be CHECKED/tested...

I can understand that this is what you meant but it is not what you said. I often find that ideas, messages, true intentions can be misread / misunderstood in text form, particularly if the author is not writing in his / her native tongue.
Anyway, I think Eric's picture (above) is definitely worth a 1,000 words. This question, of course, is unanswerable by humans! I originally asked it to see what the various views would be but the thread has turned into something that most feel is going nowhere.
With this reason in mind, I am now regretfully locking the topic.
Mike
