Thea Render
-
Well. .. I took the plunge and made the purchase. Pretty much without giving it much of a test drive. . .mostly on the say so and talents of guys like Pete, Oli and others. Had to get it done before the price went up.
Note to Thea Gods. . .Thanks for the price discount extension.
I'm a little nervous--still wasn't that cheap. .. I'm wringing my hands a bit. (sigh) But . . .I'm okay about it. I'm good. (big sigh! nervouse laugh)
It's not like buying a car pretty much sight unseen. . .and I've done that too.
So. .. here we go. .. I am now a Thea guy. Now I just need to learn the darn thing!

You will really enjoy Thea.
I don't pick things up at the blazing speed I see others doing here, and Thea is full studio renderer, not an integrated one, so there are things to learn.
But the basics, which will do renderings that will drop your jaw, are as simple as exporting your SketchUp model via Tomasz's excellent plug in, and pushing the button. A lot of SketchUp materials render exceptionally well (you will probably want to change your glass materials for Thin Glass though), but once you start playing with the material editor you will be hooked.
The contribution to the materials section of the Thea Forum is amazing. Check out DallasRT's textures.
I'm just learning, but if you post your questions either here or on the Thea Forum, and I will help where I can.
Welcome aboard. -
I just came onboard with Thea, but my better and faster computer won't boot up, yeah what a bummer.
But I'm looking at all the tutorials. -

See!!!! That's what I am talkin' about. Tomas has a great plugin! who knew? Where to get it?
I know! I will search the forum. .. unless one of you guys want to link me directly to it.

thanks Gaieus.. .

my first THEA test render. I got a lot to learn still, but hey! . .. if I can do this. . .
a chimp can write a sonnet. . . but you knew that already.

Hey David. Good on ya. Are you hooked yet?
-
i wuoldn't say hooked. I mean I was jazzed when Pete showed this in Boulder. . . and I knew I was going to drink the kool-aid as it were, but seeing what you guys do with this and comparing it to where I am at. . .I gotta ways to go.
So yes. .. I am committed. I mean. . .I put out the $$ so I gotta learn it. . but it's going to be a while before I am confident in doing cool cars, or cannons or that kinda stuff.
Please stand by!
