A Thread for Fine Design

Beautiful architecture, corresponding photos...

The photos are good for render references too

Beautiful works.
Those curved gluelams are sweet. -
Marcus, the couch in the big picture with the curved glulams has tiny subtle puckers at bottom just where you would expect them in the real world. However somebody would have to be a little nuts to model with that much detail in SU. Can you explain what is really going on?

Oh those are real photos, I thought the home fell in the "Fine Design" category (at the risk of stating the obvious, that's the topic of this thread). Links to the articles on Arch Daily are under the photos...

Hand carved tropical gourd lamps...gorgeous!!
Many, many more pics here and here.
I'd love to learn to programmatically generate something like this for 3D printing...maybe some day, gotta brush up on my math skillz first...

Those are beautiful, and reminded me of these Ostrich egg carved lamps.
-
Nice, I haven't seen those before

We don't usually think of a piece of paper as fine design, but I think this receipt really breaks the mold (or mould )
I lovethe little "NOTES" box
More info here.

The receipt is so well though out. Things just kept popping out at me. Really cool.

Really fine example of bringing the outside in.

These are really very great designs for decorative purposes. I am fond of home decorations and hence very much impressed.

Just discovered the 'I'm Watch'. This is an Android based system that looks very Applelike! I like the design and function! BTW, its Italian design so has a heads start
Even basic Colour version looks is a bit pricey at β¬249 but if price is no object, advertised models can go up to β¬11,999 and the sky is the limit after that for 'special' materials.
I must start dropping hints that it would make a good Xmas present

Allandale House
William OBrien Jr http://www.wojr.org/work/allandale-house/This brought to my mind the Ecumenic chapel of st. Henrik's in Turku, Finland, by Matti Sanaksenaho
Turku also has the one of the most beautiful modern church buildings I know, The Resurrection (funerary) chapel, by Erik Bryggman, 1941

What beautiful spaces.
The architecture of Churches has always interested me as to how the sense of space and our reaction to it are interpreted.
From the awe of the soaring vaulted cathedral, to the small sensual chapel, the successful designs can really cause reaction. -

I was doing some research on Lanterns, and stumbled across these Vancouver Architects whose company is called Molo Design. http://molodesign.com/
Their website is well worth the visit, so I though I would raise this thread up from the dead.
The lantern search led me to these brilliant bags/lamps called "hobo"
Yes it can be used as a satchel, and a wall (or anywhere I guess) light.
Aside from the duality, there is a real usefulness here in being able to have your bag light up.
But mostly I just think they are cool.
Three other lights are shown in this photo, Cloud Softlight, Cappello, and Urchine. The sculpturable
forms of the Cloud Softlight and Urchine make them really appealing to me.
But it is there work with paper wall systems that I think is really creative fine design.
If you drill down into their website, there is a pricelist, and these are amazingly affordable given their uniqueness.
Also you will find they use SketchUp.
Well of course they do.
