That's nice of you to try to keep your evil activites all legal under current zoning code David.

Its looking good. I'm still trying to figure out what lump of dirt looks the comfiest for me and the kids to sleep on when we come visit in a few weeks... πŸ˜†

I'm not sure that I've ever really seen a full basement in California. I'm not sure why.

Partly a side effect of frostline depth. In the Frozen North like Minnesota the frostline depth is, oh, about 350ft down - in California it's about 18" above ground πŸ˜„ . Since you need to have the base of your footings below frost depth to avoid frost heave ruining your building you inevitably get a high likelihood of basements in Minnesota and a low probability in California.

I'm building on a slope, so it made sense to do a walk-out basement, also known as a lower floor with a dirt back wall.

Interesting, I did not realize that building footings needed to be below the frost line. That would help explain things a bit.

ELY::The Interior furred walls will be insulated. In the Mountain areas, like Park City for example you would do 2" of Rigid on the outside of the foundation, then do the bituthane thing. And still furr and insulate the interior foundation wall.

But where I am at, I should be fine. Frost depth for my elevation. . .32"

AAD: thanks for the offers to advise. I think I got it covered. Although I can see mistakes that I have made along the way.

Garage Slab poured this weekend! My wife says. . .the garage is too small. Honey. .it's bigger than we have ever had before. It just looks small because the walls aren't on it yet. Nothing to compare it too. Trust the SketchUP model. The cars fit!!!!

I see,the earth is different in all the countries(and the weather too) .Here(in Romania) if u go that deep with the basement and no insulation on the outside u ll have wall mold all the way.

check out the first of the post to see the idea. Here's a new quickie render based on a few tweaks. I havent' really done anything with Landscape yet, so that's not worked out as you see in the render.

as far as sound insulation goes. . .batt insulation throughout for sound and weather. It's required. As far as noise goes, I don't care about me bothering my neighbors with a huge big-A flat screen with surround sound. . .i just don't want them bothering me.

                                            Jus Kiddin'!!! πŸ˜†
