Hobbnob's WIP Thread

Cheers lads. On the sp side of things, the model has been made with a sort of atmosphere, which if you travel outside of this then you will be in space, and gravity will be considerably lower. On the modelling side of things, slow progress because I have been concentrating on the sp

How is the model coming now?
-
same its looking really good! just keep going with the details they take ages but its well worth it in the end!
Good to see some more scifi stuff not that there is anything wrong with the arcitectural stuff around here its amazing but its always nice to see somebody making other models that are not cars and buildings! As for the details I think thats the most fun part, I usually take a small section copy and paste it into a new document and really go to town on it. Then just paste it back onto the main model and delete the old geometry.
Ive put in a picture to show you what I mean. After roughing out a model (in this example my halo 3 frigate) i split it up into sections someitmes as many as 20-30 depending on how big the model is then work on each part as a seperate file slowly pasting them back to the main file. Also helps if your model is symetrical to just construct half of it and then copy and paste then flip the final half. I would also leave texturing till last, just colour the model one solid colour such as grey it helps to show up the details and lets you see the bits that need working on the most. You could also download kerk or podium trial verison to help see how the details look rendered?
Otherwise I sometimes find when you come to detailing working on the ship as a whole can seeem a bit daunting! and sometimes it feels like you are going nowhere fast! Take your time tho the results are always well worth it. If you need any help let me know, my computer is off with apple getting repaired but it should be getting back to me by the weekend at least fingers crossed!

Liam, thats a good way of going about it!
-
Thanks Liam, heeding your advice I decided to do some work on the engine:
And as a result of this I am currently modifying the wings to fit the new engines:
It was mentioned earlier about me learning about circuit building and also organic modelling. No work yet on the circuit front I'm afraid, but I had a look at BTM's organic tutorial and have so far got this:
-
Done a bit more on the wing/engine connector:
And also remodelled the head:
-
My first post, it's for a project I decided to start about an hour ago now, for the firefly spaceship from the film "Serenity" and the series "Firefly". Anyways, here is the real thing:
This is my first sci-fi model so i'm not really expecting good results, but i'll keep going and see what happens
Here is my current progress after about half an hours worth of modelling: -

non sketchyphysics
Yeah basically. The organic modelling sounds good, i've never even thought of doing that, looks very difficult, but i shall try. I'll see what I can do with circuits as well. No progress on the serenity, been working on Nola's louisiana sketchyphysics. Now then, time to learn organics

Lookin' good! But where the wing will be looks kinda weird, like you strayed from the tutorial! But it looks fine w/o Hidden Geometry on. I should really get back into organic modelling, it was really fun for me! PS if you want to see my best organic model, see my Toucan or Seal

Fraid not, followed the tut to the letter, there was the result
-
Little bit more work, moved one of the solar panels, put the name on it, and added a bit more detail to the head
-
Well, the bird (i assume, if not, i apologize, i am really tired from a busy day!) looks awesome. So does the SP Ship. Can't wait to see both!
-
Starting work on a track, working against a mate to make the next track for motorsketch 2. I myself am making a fictional WRC super special stage:
-
Awesome!!!
-
Cheers mate, but how can I improve? Saying it's 'awesome' over and over again is all very well and good but it's not helping me at all. The reason I put this topic up is so that I can improve from other people's criticism, not as a showcase.
-
XD Sorry, mate. Well, if I were you, I would maybe add another route so people can have a choice of which way to go on the track, understand what i mean?
-
Fair enough, may be a bit tricky getting the ai to do that but I'll see what I can do
-
The AI will follow only their individual routes, you can make each one drive wherever you like
-
Yeah, make some take one route and some take the other!
-
Fair enough. Need some input here, I have absolutely no idea where to put the second route. Here is the circuit plan:
The finish straight is the long straight that isn't mud
As you can see, I have made this a night circuit, and put up a couple more barriers to stop the AI getting stuck. Here is a 'crowd's eye' view:
