'Sketchni' aka Jeremy has been kind enough to donate his very cool model for us to play with.

It is a neon cube light that can be posed in different ways.

The cool thing is there is thick glass/plastic and neon lighting, making for a very interesting render challenge.

I'd like to see as many different render engines as possible, most of all I'd like that whoever participates to have fun.

      The model: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1129899/cube%20neon.skp

Whow pete, you are really good. The surroundings looking good. πŸ‘

What renderprogram you use? for this kind of productrenders, and the glass, is looking great.

            Thanks Jeremy, I use Thea.

The scene is lit with IBL (hdri), I did not use glass, I assumed it would be plastic as flourescent light has very little heat.

Is it possible to have these as direct attachments to SCF for the Imageshack blind.

              Would be appreciated, thanks

oh wow you took a very different approach to me pete, i envisioned this light as being a floor lamp not a desk lamp, although i love your renders. mine is currently rendering away so i should post mine later.

looks very realistic pete, how long does such a render take? and is it unbiased?

Nice renders and lovely looking plastics? Great start! πŸ‘

i didn't really want to be the one to follow pete, especially with the same render engine but oh well.
here is my crack with thea, i would have let it run for a bit longer but it took 2 hours to get to this point n i need to go to sleep πŸ˜›
oh and i have absolutely no clue what happened to that 1 panel that isn't lit, the materials are all the same....it's odd, i'm guessing i got some bad wiring and those lights need fixing.

                            Hey Pete that's very nice!
Is Thea your rendering of choice? Have you ever used Kerkythea? I thought you were a fan of Podium. It's nice to see you using Thea because I use Kerkythea which is similar from what I gather. It's nice to see good results are possible, even as good as Vray IMHO.

Is the table part of the HDRI or is it modeled?

                              Lapx,

I never really got into KT, never fancied the UI, Thea is easier to figure out and the material editor is better than anything I've used before.
I still have Podium and awaiting Version 2 to reach completion, I'm hoping that it will have some some key features I have been asking for for a very long time, so it's a wait and see.

Yeah, Thea is pretty damn fast for both biased and unbiased, and once you get your head around it's UI and figure out the material editor it becomes quite addictive actually.

The glass table is modelled, the background is HDRI.

This is a render made with Vue. A little bit to much light, but in vue I need to play more with it. (btw. pete, do you know how to make hdri? And how can I put hdri in Vue, cause its not really works.)
