Aircraft W.I.Ps
-
Hey,
like you work (in progress). Will there be more polys?
And where did you get the crosssection things from?I'm thinking about starting an aircraft myself, but have not decided which one!

Hi Fritz,
No, there won't be any more polys in the main fuselage body, as I would like to keep my planes low-poly. I got those cross-sections from colacola, Just click those airplane renders and there's a download link below giving the blues and cross-sections. As for your first plane, I would recommend the spitfire, not really hard, yet not really easy too. (Sorry, don't have cross sections for that). Anyhow, here's the basic wing shape completed.

Nice work, Ultimatez - you´ve been quite busy lately
Tempest is one of my favourites, I had a scale model of Clostermann´s Le Grand Charles.
I understand this is a WIP, but I think that the fuselage could use some extra work - it is bulged inwards under the cockpit, and you should get rid of that hump towards the vertical stabilizer - the transition should be smoother.
Thanks for the link, those sections may come in handy.
Very useful link also http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/ with tons of blueprints, some of them with cross sections.
Keep the updates coming.
Cheers! -
Thanks for the link numbthumb! Anyways, a tiny update, added the cockpit and fixed that cockpit hump.

This one looks better for sure.
Now that is quite a collection you´ve got there, Ultimatez. Do you keep them low poly for a reason ( using in game maybe ) ? -
Thanks for the links and nice work!
-
Thanks for the comments guys!
Numbthumb, I keep them low-poly as I plan to sell them someday and currently all the planes I know in the market except in formfonts are high poly. Also, high poly destroys my laptop
Anyways, just to let you know, all the planes I've made so far are all under 5000 polys; actually my highest poly plane is about 3600 polys.ultimatez

So your plan is to get rich?
No, seriously, if it´s about your laptop ( among other things ), then I really hope you are going to upgrade soon.
What do you mean there are no low poly models on the market except in FormFonts ? What about TurboSquid or Exchange3D for instance ?
Personally, I am still struggling with level of details, and I tend to "overload" my models.
As Antoine de Saint-Exupery said: A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.I hope someday I´ll know that.

Hi numbthumb,
no, I'm not planning to get rich, scratch that post. Actually I think that I have no absolute reason why I model them low poly. Also, I'm probably wrong about that whole low poly thing too; I don't check out those websites too often. I'll probably make a new plane with more polys soon, but then again I can't stand the sight of that black gooeyness, so I'll make one with no more than 20.000 polys. Ok then, that's my limit.

That "getting rich" part was only a joke.
And please note that I am not bothered by the number of polys either.
I was just curious.
What paint scheme are you going to use on your Tepmest? -
Hi numbthumb,
Probably the paint scheme would be something like this:

Tiny update, added the nose-cone, propellers and I also flipped the plane to make the full body.

Looking good.
Are those markings of No.6 RAF Squadron? -
Hi guys,
I'm not really good at texturing this tempest so if anyone here would like to texture/render it, here's the file.

Tempest is looking good but you seem to have forgotten to do the tailplane?..well done
-
Oops! I haven't posted that update yet, here ya go:
(Anyways if you download the file I posted earlier there's the tail wings there)ultimatez

hey,
I finally stared one: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=27219
but still have no idea, how to texture the whole thing (rivets,...)
You know how to do that?Greetz, Fritz
-
Alright, a new aircraft wip, the Heinkel He 100
-
Hi Unkr3at1v,
Do you mean the texturing, or placing the rivets themselves?
If it's texturing you simply use the projection method, or if you mean placing the rivets then probably use the drop ruby; place the rivets above the aircraft itself, and then rotate the aircraft 90 degrees. Nice wip so far.ultimatez

Hi Guys,
Finished modeling the Heinkel He 100, off to coloring next.
