Help with a new 'style'...
-
ok... not 'new'..but new for me... dont attack this image too bad because i only had four hours to knock this out yesterday and had to make up the space more or less... my one client is trying to change our style up a bit...
looking for comments, examples, etc...whatever you've got is appreciated
this is straight from sketchup..

Just my thoughts, I think it works if the pale blue areas are the focus of the design because as I look around my eyes keep getting drawn back to those areas, if it isn't the focus then it's a little distracting.

I have to agree. If those areas are the focal point then the style is doing it's job, BUT with having a little color on an otherwise grey image my eyes are searching for the rest of the color. Personally I like the all greyscale much better. Not sure that keying in on one color will always work.
My 2 cents,

agreed...the colored area needs to be the focus... not sure this was really the ideal project to try this out on.. searching for some examples of this style. thanks for the comments.

I understand your difficulties introducing colours, however, I believe it is best to use them to place emphasis to specific features....a focus like you say.
Check out my Quasi-Clay Tutorial....there are a couple of examples where I have applied some colour to specific architectural features. I know they are rendered but its a similar style, you may be interested.
also, have you tried introducing different line colours?can also create emphasis
