WIP exterior- need help
-
Hey, my this years school project is reachig its deadline so I need some crits. This would be my first v-ray exterior so it's taking most of the time experimenting. I Did a little tone mapping to the render.
-
Not bad so far. Being that the pool is in the foreground, I would make the tiles larger and also rethink using the paver texture on the pool coping.
Render quality is pretty low and grainy. I would use a different preset, or tweak your settings. Other than that I think the scene needs a little life to make it stand out. More vegetation, a better background image, perhaps something on the little table next to the lounge chair. Play around a little and post the results...I'm curious to see this progress.

I kept the settings and reselution quite low, so the render time wouldn't be so big. The background was nice befor I destroyed it with PP and I think I should change the trees to bushess. Still struggling to get the grass right. I wonder what would be the right transparency/reflectivity ratio for the water in the pool?
Edit: There's something that has been bothering me for a long time- how do you change the size of the bump map if there is no difuse material(only solid colour)?

Did some minor changes, but I'm still having some problems with the clipmaps and although I increased the light cache subdivisions and reduced the noise threshold it turned out not so good, and the walls became a bit spotted. Or am I doing something wrong? What other settings would help? Texturing the pool is a real pain in the a$$...

The final thing

Hey Speaker,
I missed your follow up post. Final is a big improvement. A few things to keep in mind for next time.....as someone who designs a lot of pools, I would never design a raised coping like that as it is a trip hazard. Also, the landscaping around the house is very lonely...it needs some friends and some color! Perhaps adding an umbrella to the table on the deck to help break up the monotony of that wall. I think the water looks good as do the windows. A lot of the other textures need a higher resolution bitmap image for them to have an impact in the scene. I also think the final scene looks a little washed out and could use a little color adjustment. Keep it up man....it's all good stuff to learn from and you can only get better!

I have to agree with earthmover. The scene give me the feeling the house is empty and without life. Almost abandoned. The scene needs some more vegetation and there needs to be more around the pool. The quality of the render (lighting, AA, etc.) is nice.
