Recuva, FREE recovery tool for deleted files
-
A free recovery tool for files you accidentally wipe out with Shift+Delete or by emptying the trash.
The full review in Cnet's Download.com:
http://download.cnet.com/8301-2007_4-10401193-12.htmlI donloaded it, my antivirus program found nothing suspicious, it installed as 64-bit in Windows 7, and a simple test with an mp3 showed it indeed works:
You can skip the annoying "for dummies" wizard by just pressing Cancel in the first screen. This will take you directly to the search window.
Remember to install this tool before you need it, as the installation might overwrite precisely what you're trying to recover. And act fast when you accidentally delete something; use this tool immediately.
Another recommendation would be: If you're in a massive, multi-stage recovery mission (Shift+Deleting a huge folder is something that can happen to anyone), recover the files to another disk unit or a USB drive to avoid overwriting other stuff you might still need to recover.

Does it works for files moved in recycle bin, then recycle bin emptied ? Because what I use http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=22762#p192217 works just for files deleted with Shift+Delete. (and this tool doesn't require installation)

I just made a test with a .3ds file and yes, if you follow the wizard it has an option to recover stuff deleted from the Recycle bin. Unfortunately, it only shows the DOS names of files deleted from the Recycle Bin. BTW, the .3ds file was perfectly readable by SketchUp after recovering.
