Isn't it just another Linux distro ?
        (driver support? etc...)

If all you do in chromeOS is webbased, what happens if you (temporarily) don't have internet connection?
Then your laptop becomes a useless brick ...or am I wrong?

If this grows to become as popular as GMail and Google search, it's the end of our fun little OSX vs Windows arguments.

From the light reading ive done so far i think its only going to be released on approved hardware, a la apple.

And ive got no idea what happens if you lose your internet connection, hopefully something that doesnt brick it entirely 😉

After watching the video explanation I feel like a dinosaur. Most of what I do is hard-drive based, including SketchUp. I've been slow to adapt to Google Docs, online photo sharing, online 3d modeling, etc.

This reminds me that Microsoft's suite of "Essential" apps is now only offered as a download and most are tied to online services.

To be honest i think its aimed at a different market. Its going to be a long time before 3d starts becoming cloud based (serious 3d that is) as you need performance that just isnt there at the moment.

I imagine itd be pretty good if your just trying to get some work done on the train/plane/car though (provided youve got an internet connection of course.)

I do browse a lot (otherwise I wouldn't be here 😄 ), but all the work is done from the hard drive, just like Miguel.
I can't imagine I would ever use ChromeOS because of that.
hopefully, sketchup doesn't become an online app 😲 .

Already-established software rarely changes radically. It can't, for fear of alienating its existing user base and to mantain backwards compatibility. Radical change can only come with a different program with a different name, even if it comes from the same company (Google Building Maker anyone?).

I could also hardly imagine running SU "seriously" online. It's already a resource hog as far as its performance is concerned so imagine modelling something with a couple of million poly's on a dial-up connection (and even in the US many use dial-up).

However if Chrome "grows up" and becomes a real OS (as is planned IF it is received well), I could imagine a SU version for Chrome (or actually any Linux OS). This has been a high demand ever since the free version came out (I presume, previously, when only "Pro users" used to use it, it wasn't as "hot" of a wish).

                      Gai...

I strongly suspect that chrome OS proper will actually be, or at least look like, GOSlinux. Google have been working with them for a while.
