Tried an experiment. Copied the dragon, pasted it in place, scaled one copy down by 10%, placed it inside the other dragon to give it a real subsurface, assigned the outer skin a transparent material, and the inner a green translucent material. Didn't turn out like I expected, but was fun.
The mint jello dragonHmm, if the IoR is the same it may have negated the effect. Perhaps applying a mild fresnel effect to the outer layer?

I had to give it a try with this little guy.Twilight #9....let it render while I was at work yesterday for about 12 hrs.
RichWoodtick, this looks very interesting. Could you share how you did it?

modo with drag and drop presets

Playing again.

Ecuadorian,
Well, since I'm really new to this I'm just trying different ideas to see what happens. Nothing scientific to my approach, but I'll share as best I can.
Dragon sits in the bowl: high reflective template
Dome goes on top for the render:diamond glass
spotlights as shownSpherical sky, no sun, HDRI
Two small red omnis, nose& throat
skinny spotlight on tongue
tiny orange omni eyestarted with rubber ball material and tweaked :
SU fog on
TW preset #9That covers most of it I think.
Lots of great images here folks......keep 'em coming.

twilight
rubber ball material
preset 9
let it run overnightThanks Solo.

That is excellent. I've not been able to get that kind of result from Twilight. Will have to have another go at it. Do you mind showing your lighting setup?
Does the orange dragon have an eyepatch?
-
of course
It was an accident that my light bulb size(radius) was at 50.8
I also used a HDR lighting for the sky probe. Oli posted the link to said hdr images a little while ago.
Thanks Oli.and you did spot my eyepatch... haha
-
edmund, you nailed it

50.8 is millimeter equivalent of 2 inches, the default light size.
-
thank god. I was looking at it like "really?" thats what I made the light bulb size.
thanks for clarificationThanks Dale

Those looked really good, Edmund.
Now, they say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, so I hope Remus doesn't mind my try to achieve a similar look to his blue rubber dragon:

ok, been putting it of, but here is my V-ray attempt.
i used a preset as a guide and made this material, not sure what it is!
its has some mega harsh shadows which i have no idea how to get rid of as i am still learing V-ray.
Rendered in less than 40s which i was mega impressed by!pav
