Some more detail, no texturing yet just geometry:
And a sketchy accident that looked pretty cool:

Its cool! ...for some reason it reminds me of that kids book "Where the Wild Things Are"
-
haha that brings back memories. the illustrations used to freak me out
-
Looks great Oli, what renderer did you use? and what setting as that looks biased.
-
a walkway of spikey glass? What renderer is this?

-
frederik.......is it possible to increase the AA of the alpha mask preset?

Are there any render tutorials on twilight? I've seen a lot of great renders done with twilight (including this one )
-
twilight for this particular one.
I used exterior progressive to flint template. spherical sky and sunlight enabled (although I added sky back in PP cos it was a bit distorted)
(previous renders were podium biased for speed)
-
Very striking images, I like them a lot. Great job!

In my knowledge no, but if you render alpha mask with 2-3x greater resolution and scale it down in photoshop, you will get AA + Supersampling.
-
ahh ha!
thanks good idea
-
yeah......the manual lol
this was very easy to setup, like 5 mins to setup the render (lots more time to model) and 15 hours to render it, although I could have stopped it a lot sooner.

If it's for replacing the background, have you tried this with a big plane instead?

one iteration of subsmooth
-
Im amazed at the modelling... so organic... I dont have the minimum idea on how to even begin such modelling at Sketchup... congratulations!
-
Hey Oli,
Thanks for all the great images. You mentioned you use a technique called "sub-smooth". Can you fill me in on what that is exactly or point me in the direction of a forum that can help me learn. Thanks so much.

http://www.smustard.com/script/SubdivideAndSmooth
its a modeling plugin for making organic forms. its $22 but its well worth it.
Search this forum for subdivide and smooth and there's tons of information and tutorials. try youtube also.
I made this building with it a while back, lots of possibilities:

More detail and texturing this time.

Wow, Oliver!
This is starting to look like a work of art! It reminds me of Max Ernst's painting La joie de vivre.
