Who knows something about Sketchupbar.com

And I disagree with you in return.
A response is fine and if the commercial developers feel they need to speak in one united voice about this matter I would say: go for it.
But is SCF the right spokesman for this? The fact that we should be grateful to the plugin writers has nothing to do with it.
I am grateful too for all the lovely contributions.
But the plugins are not written for SCF, they are written for Sketchup users.SCF does not 'own' the plugins, the authors own them, and that is how it should be.

For obvious reasons, I don't have any knowledge about Chinese law...
I take your word for it, but want to express my dissatisfaction with the approach...
In my part of the world, the least you can do is to ask for permission by the developers...@tas_1985 said:

You can argue that you wouldn't get the permission if you ask, but NOT asking at all is very disrespectful...!!
Please read what Fletch wrote...

Twilight Render is very OPEN AND WELCOMING to creating versions in different languages, and we are also committed to providing help for "educational" institutions... those interested need only to ASK and be given permission. We will gladly work with someone to translate the software, but rights will NOT be given to redistribute on any other website for pay or free. We are the only one with the right to distribute Twilight Render. Pisces clearly knows this.

Or here is TIG's new Lathe plugin (now also shared on a file sharing site I am pretty sure he does not know of). I am not saying that SketchUcation has any copyrights over his plugins but it would probably be a very friendly approach to ask himfirst.
Chris, No-one said anything you are trying to imply here. In fact, I was exctly saying what you are saying. The only thing I spoke for SketchUcation was this:

Also (and now I am talking for SketchUcation), I am not pleased with SketchUpBAR simply re-posting interviews (or any other, published material) released at SketchUcation - like in this case with Goh Chun Hee (see the original article).
And as for joining forces to fight piracy, I don't see any problems with people raising their voices here (or anywhere else in fact) but if I can add any little bit of help (and in this case even using SCF), I am rather happy than cautious to keep myself away.

...Who knows what tutorials have been copied as well. And those belong to authors who will subsequently suffer because of the missed advertisement income EDIT: ...they are entitled to.
True. I wouldn't be against any fair solution. I could imagine for instance that a Chinese sketchupper (or in fact, any other foreign language speaker) translates the tutorial and we would gladly host those versions too - obviously with the author's consent and probably some kind of sharing the income between the the author and the translator.
But again; that must be a part of a deal and not revamping/reposting everything without consent or even asking.

But I want to say that the Chinese law allow us to make Chinesization without payment to the author as long as we do not sell them. sometimes even without the authorization.I really like to see that law, translated properly. I only have find this http://www.chinaiprlaw.com/english/laws/laws10.htm and there a right to translation is only given to original copyright holder. What I have understood Chinese copyright law allows translation only, if it does not infrict rights of original copyright holder - so I see that your are simply explaing the missuse.
Sure there are laws that do allow modification of a software for private use in certain cases (if you have purchased an software and it does not work or in educational use), but they do not allow distribution of the modified software. Also translation is allowed, but in fairly limited form "(6) translation, or reproduction in a small quantity of copies, of a published work for use by teachers or scientific researchers, in classroom teaching or scientific research, provided that the translation or reproduction shall not be published or distributed;"
So please, no excuses. These sites are clearly infricting copyrights and it's really shameful that they representatives do come here to claim that they have right to do so. -
We made translations on the purpose of free education. Now we have deleted our translation version of TW. For the future we will only translate software and plug-ins that are authorized.
-
Wow. if the site is hosting pirated software then why cant it just be shut down?
There is one thing translating software....but then distributing it without the author's consent is purely illegal.

When it has been clearly demonstrated that all links to download all illegal/unauthorized softwareon your website have been removed we can discuss this.

TAS_1985 was not the one posting illegal software on your website. you have banned them for confirming something that is already known, that your website is selling illegal software while claiming to be a legitimate distributor of Google SketchUp in Asia.
@Tas_1985
Thank you for saying that you will delete the illegal download for Twilight Render. However, there still appears to be a download button in a thread at SketchUpBar's site.In addition, we are still waiting for you to remove all links and threads regarding downloading any illegal/unauthorized software from your website. We can see there are a lot of them.
You can not claim that you are 'better' than the other guy because your illegal software is free...
Most people here would agree that the talented and enthusiastic Chinese 3D community deserves Chinese language software. Providing it illegally is not the honorable way to achieve this goal.
-
Dale, you're going off topic here... :thread hijack:
Please start a new topic if you want to discuss if users have pirated software, a bitTorrent movie, or a LimeWire song or two on the ipod...
Personally I haven't got any of the above mentioned...
-
So sorry,Fletch
You must refresh. We already have deleted them. I do not know how you can download them. Please give links to me, they once been verified will immediately be removed. -

I feel sorry about your situation but an example needs to be set. Once you have tracked down all the illegally distributed copies and you have sent out invoices and collected...and then distributed the revenue to the creators of the software, you are forgiven. Until then "the site or sites" you run or are associated with are criminal. Further to that, when you are finished the above I still might decide I want a more elaborate remedy and could be compelled to seek you out through your local authorities. I wonder if they have been approached already.

..a comment from Yarmo’s recent email…..
“ We tell everyone there is no use going to the expense of tracking these people down unless there is a real crime involved that is of some scale. Software theft is not going to get you inside their door. In our experience, a crook is a crook. If they distribute illegal software they are normally involved in other illegal enterprises and have other elicit and incriminating materials on their servers. So we give their environments a good look see. When the authorities get involved it is because we have been able to find more serious crimes taking place from the servers outside the realm of software theft.”…if I was you I would tell these people they better start packing up.
We need more "Yarmo's" in this digital wild wild west era. The fact that this enterprise is pirating more than just Twilight I would be willing to bet the servers run a number of other "pirate" sites catering to different software packages and groups. Solo had found "Silo" and some other apps "for sale".
While not everyone here can claim to be a "pirate virgin" (I know I can't from my youthful days") we can work on educating people on why it is so bad. The greatest point I can find is the fact that Twilight is such a great bargain right now that its price point puts itself into the category of affordability even for a struggling Chinese student.

Why not they just get Kerkythea? it's 100% free and is Twilight without the simplified UI, infact it's more powerful with more options.

Very true. New PlayStation 3 games go for $60, and yet kids somehow convince their parents to buy them, all around the globe.

Messing up other peoples computers pays well if you do it legally
I do not believe it is legal to acccess any computer of any organisation/person with the intent to alter or interfere with the system. Doing this is no better than what these blokes are doing by nicking the software.
Shame on you for propagating the notion that such practice is justified.
