      Hello,
I’m about to upgrade my video card (to the trailing edge of leading technology) by getting an NVIDIA 8500gt. Current card is 6200se 256mb.
This way, I can use my current power supply, and pick up a new card on eBay for around $35us.
So, what I’m wondering is 1gb better than 512mb?
I’ve read a few article that say no and some that say yes.
I’m using SU6 (will upgrade to 8 with all the money I save on the cheap video card upgrade), & photoshop.
There is 2gb of system ram, I’m thinking about going to 4gb, and using xp sp3.
Thanks in advance for any & all comments, suggestions.
      Glenn

I just upgraded from an old 7300GS to a new 9600GT.

I see absolutely no difference in performance when orbiting the SketchUp viewport, or when using the Tour tool in LightUp. And I made sure to install the last nvidia drivers. It seems that the bottleneck was not my video card, but my old Core 2 Duo E6300 processor.

Skimp on the video card and get yourself a new processor. Wait, I see you're already skimping on the video card. 👍

I dont think it will make a lot of difference to your SU performance whether you go for 1gb or 512mb, so id go for the 512mb version as i presume it will also be cheaper.

            Thanks for the reply’s.
The price is pretty similar at this point, since the card is so old.
