Experience with Application Virtualiazation on SketchUp 7
-
Hi,
Application Virtualization is a technique for separating the application from the undelying Operating System. With a virtualized application an end user no longer got installation hassles, conflicts of device drivers, "dll hell", conflicting dependencies of run time libraries and all kind of practical obstacles many Windows users and IT-staff are faced with on a daily base.
In my ICT jobs, I generally advice IT departments to apply all kinds of virtualization solutions like Application Virtualization. The 3D highly interactive apps however quite often introduces real challenges to get them virtualized. This is often related to hardware and devices directly driven by the application, not through the O.S. software layers. In the case of SketchUp the OpenGL requirements and graphics support ingeneral, are a challenge.
Last week I used to last SketchUp 7 (maintenance) release (both Free and Pro) to transform the regular installation package in a fully virtualized and properly working application.
With this result the step towards an SaaS based software model for applications like SketchUp is a very small additional one. I'm aware of the juridical implication this transformation has regarding the current license models and agreement. For that reason I'm looking to a contact person at Google SketchUp, who wille be open for exploring this topic together with me. Has anyone of you some suggestions?
Thanks for your attention. Any comments will be appreciated.

You could try AndrewS: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/ucp.php?i=pm&mode=compose&u=13365
Im not sure how much luck you'll have, though, as google generally don't work with outside developers/users on projects.
