Upside of the credit-crunch is time to brush up on some skills.

I'm still hacking at this trying to work out a repeatable work-flow.
What I can say is learn to get the image to work in grey-scale values before attempting anything in colour.

I have played with painter-x ...let the trial run out. I really loved it but was set back by the price...are you convinced?

What I find attractive is the ability to develop some really expressive custom brushes & pens.

                  • and it is cheaper than Photoshop but with a similar functional interface. Great for doing design doodles.

Those look great...I really like the cleanness you maintained with the water color. Sometimes water colors look a little to water colored.

I really like them. One of the best digital watercolour images from this forum.
                        Nice colourscheme too.
I've done some tests with Photoshop and would be interested in hearing what technique you used.

                                I don't know if anyone's considering Painter X, but:

                                http://www.nothingbutsoftware.com/Catalog_Type.asp?ProductCode=87342&ai=3695

This is the commercial version at a pretty reasonable price ($169.95).

                                Hope this helps,
