Urgent question - SU and Win 64bit
-
Is anyone running SketchUp on a 64bit windows (XP)?
I know SU is just 32bit but will it run O.K. on a 64bit system?
In the SU help it says: SketchUp will run on 64bit versions of Windows, but it will run as a 32bit application.
If it works are there any known issues?I'm asking because I'm getting a new PC for work and would like a 64bit machine.

my friend has su working fine on his 64 bit vista machine if that helps you...

Make sure that you have the necessary 64 bit drivers for your existing hardware (printers, scanners, video graphic adapter (verify works with SU too), etc.) before switching.

Yes, SU will run fine on a 64 bit machine, it just wont be able to take advantage of the fact it is 64 bit.

Thanks for your answers. There are others in the company that works only in 3dsmax and they have 64bit PC's but since I use SU quite a bit having it running without problems is critical. However latly I have experienced memory issues when rendering in Max so therefore I'm looking in to a 64bit system.
Any other problems/tips would be great. -
I recall reading somewhere on this site that all things being equal, because 32 bit is emulated on a 64 bit system, it will run slower. Don't know if this is true, but if your new CPU, bus, memory, etc. is faster, they may be no problem. You can also have more memory available to the total system, and on a multi core machine, this may leave maximum memory, and as much as one core for SU. Apparently, the new i7 Intel chip can "overclock" the core assigned to SU.
If you decide to go this way, can you tell us what your results are?
