when making models with high details, I usualy scale 10x - 100x. When I finish I downscale my model, but in Components browser I still have those big components. How can I get rid of that information which keeps my component at initial scale? If I scale it it means I want it scaled 😄

      thanks.

Hey NewOne, I'm not quite clear what your asking for. Scaling is stored on each instance of the model. So if you create a component, then scale the component from the outside, that should not change the scale of the component definition. But if you scale it from the inside (while in component edit mode) then it will change the component definition, because you are actually changing the size of the geometry. When you scale from outside the group you are merely telling the component container to display as 100x larger than the definition.

So if the problem is that you work at a large scale, and then when you scale it smaller, the componeont definition does not reflect that scaling, the answer is to right click on the scaled down component and choose "Scale Definition". That will apply the scale of that instance to the definition (which is what is shown in the component browser). I am guessing that is the answer to your question.

But if you are wondering how to do it through ruby? I don't know. There is probably a way to take the instance definition and apply it back to the component definition.

        Does that begin to help?

that reminds me of another component question. if i add a component to my file ,then modify it and i want this modified one to replace the original, can i do it without going through the whole save as then searching for the original ?

Good, glad I could help. It also lets you reset the skew.....I've never been able to get a component to skew though. Maybe I'm missing something? I'll go ask in the SketchUp forum.
