PC crash - wish me luck

***Good luck [makes me feel like backing up right about now... ]
If you're looking for tips: take the HD out of your computer put it in another on, it is the easiest way of getting to your data and most importantly it gives you the option to easily save it on another disk.
Just my two cents,
Good luck [again ]***
I should really start reading before posting. Didn't know your HD was messed up as in inaccessible
Hope you get your data back

GetDataBack NTFS and FAT32 can recover files even from a formated drive.
You can serach for DigWiz MiniPE system recovery disk. That's one powerful tool.

Update:
After trying several file rescue software I only was able to save some jpgs and pdfs. Some wasnt even able to find the drive and others crashed halfway through.
Last night when I went to bed with yet another software running overnight I felt kind of sad. This morning (It's my birthday by the way) I went to see how it had gone and found this app too has crashed.
I restarted my PC again and was about to install a cd burning app from a USB drive I have to try the Linux Live CD way mentioned above when I realised the PC showed the size of my "crashed" disk. I clicked the icon and it showed all my files was there!!!!!
Magic or Divine interception? I'm now copying all my files as fast as I can and I'm NOT turning the PC off until I'm done.
Talk about birthday present. -
Happy Birthday!

Indeed, have a good one.

personally im always pretty wary of using services like that. If your going to get some tech support i think its a lot less risky to go to a shop who can do it for you.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but very happy you recovered everything.
You know the worst thing that can happen? When you "cut" data from the pc to an external media... and your pc decides it's time to go to sleep..... unrecoverable data loss!!!!

Suddenly it was working again and I recovered everything (and backupped everything important).
However yesterday I was about to copy some files I hadnt thought I needed and it was once again inaccessible.
I have tried several software to diagnose the disk and some cant access it and others can, and says nothings wrong with it.
Eventually I'm going to format the drive but it would be nice to have got everything I need off it first, so any help appreciated. -
Interesting find:
When I turn off UAC (User account control) completely in Vista I can once again access the drive.
