Making good use of Profile Builder
-
Still have a lot more to do......not to mention rendering.

Looks very promising, im intrigued to see how the render comes out.
-
You made a good model there.
-
Could you post one with shadows off, Scott? I think it would give a better view of those intricate profiles than this (kind of) dark image.
-
Made a little more progress last night. The starburst in the floor still needs more detail.
One with shadows (lightened) and one without.

Uuuhhhh... Can't wait to see a photo real render of this scene...
It's got sooooo much potential... -
Thanks Fredrick. It still has a lot to go:
Lighting
Furniture
TexturesThis is just a side project for fun.

Nice modeling!
Is this something you can't do without the use of the plugin?
I am trying to find reasons to buy it but haven't found a proper use for it in contemporary architecture (besides steel profiles but I don't have to model a whole steel structure in detail that often). -
Kwist,
Like most (not all) plugins, they are not needed they just make things quicker than doing them manually. Profile builder works great and comes with a LOAD of profiles pre-built. I could have done all of this without the plugin but I would still be doing the trimwork
Profile builder is one of those plugins that does what it says and does it flawlessly....A real time saver more than anything.

I am adding the wallcovering now and I am looking for opinions. Personally I like the one on the left.

the one on the left is more elegant in my opinion

I am trying to find reasons to buy it but haven't found a proper use for it in contemporary architecture (besides steel profiles but I don't have to model a whole steel structure in detail that often).Profile Builder is all about speed, accuracy and adaptability to change. In only a couple clicks, Scott could completely change all the moulding profiles in this scene without re-modelling anything!
There are lots of architectural uses for the plugin including mouldings, walls, stairs, handrails, roofing, and the list goes on...I hope to someday soon release a demo version of the plugin. It's the type of plugin that the more you use it, the more you uses you find for it.
Great scene, Scott! I'm looking forward to some more!

Thanks Dale. I was hoping you would step in here.
As Dale said this plug in is about speed and overall accuracy. For architectural stuff like this model it is one of the best plugins I use on a regular basis.

nice to watch the progression of this...that floor is awesome
-
Beautiful modeling, Scott. Personally, I like the wallpaper on the right, but they are both nice.
-
i recon the one of the right is too dark, the one on the left contrasts with the dark floor, and makes the space more inviting
-
Thanks guys. I am going to go with the one on the left as it was said (and I agree) it is brighter. Once rendered it will have a metallic sheen to it (if I can pull it off). Right now the difficult part is getting furniture that will fit the scale of the space well. The middle is huge (almost 20' across) and that dwarfs everything I put in there not to mention I feel like the lights are dwarfer by the space. Any thoughts?
Scott
Jason,
Thanks for the comment on the floor. It is my own design I came up with after seeing a bunch on the web. It is still going to get some more fine detail but is ok for now.
-
Nice work so far mate. I've got to get the profile builder as it will save me a load of time.
What would be really great would be some plugin that could allow pseudo lighting within SU, especially for interiors. Turning off shadows for loads of things always ends up with a weird result which is a shame. Especially as a lot of the time there's no need for real lighting and materials.
-
Well I finally got a render I can start to work with. With all the detail in the moulding this render takes forever even on a 8 core machine. Overall I am pretty happy with it. I still have alot of lighting work to be done and some more texture tweaking but this is a start.
Comments welcome.

Looks great, Scott...!!

Depends on the render application you're using...
