Typical southerners, half an inch of snow and London comes to a standstill
Proper snow here, its 5.30a.m and I'm about to leave the house for a train, obviously being a hard northerner I'm wearing vest, shorts and flip flops.

Theres a bit of a cold snap here in the UK, getting down to a positiveley nippy -3 celcius!

So a "positively minus" (or negatively plus?) 3...
Well, mathematically it's correct: +1 X -3 = -3 (while -1 X -3 would be +3)
The night before we had some snow but by yesterday evening all was gone. This was the first "real" snow this winter and we only had a couple of days (or rather nights) below 0 Celsius (freezing).

We hit 40° celsius today over here (Perth).

Just at the opposite end of the spectrum in Sth Aust, we had 45 deg C and 6 consecutive days above 40, which is hotest on record

I spoke too soon this morning. The train left Hull at 6.30a.m, normally takes an hour to get to Leeds. At 10 a.m. the train had only managed to get two thirds of the way there and then broke down. All other trains were turned back so now I am back in Hull. Amazing what an inch of snow can do.
