It should work, you may need to turn off 'accelerated graphics' to 'software' in preferences.... if you can get SU to actually start.

      Thanks Solo,
the problem is I cant get su to start, it freezes at startup without showing the menu bar.

Is there any way to set preferences from a command line ?

      thanks.

run XP in safe mode (= standard, lame, low-res Windows drvier), press F8 several times during boot for getting the menu concerned.

I hope to find a solution 'cause otherwise I wont be able to make my (middle school) students use Sketchup
and that would be very sad,

you may alse evaluate replacing your shared low-end graphics sub system by something capable, i.e. a dedicated video card which will surely show a big boost on display output speed during screen transformations.. as well as running more stable w/ SU.

on older system with an AGP port only a nVidia GeForce 7900/7950 GS/GT is the fastest you can get.

That could be a good solution,
is it difficult to mount the graphic cards ?
                are they expensive ?

                Thank's a lot,
I didnt know how to face this problem,

did you have tried runnung SU in Windows safe mode for disabling the SU hardware acceleration option?

pluging in a video card is not very diffcult, be grounded before doing this and install (recent) driver w/ admin rights preferred.

for pricing check e.g. Amazon, the mentioned ones should not cost more than roughly U$ 100. Don't buy ATI Radeon series... weak OGL support.

                    hth,
                    Norbert

                      Here I am,

I tried XP in safe mode:

by doing so I was actually able to reach sketchup menu bar and turn off hardware accelerations,

                      BUT:

when I use Sketchup it only works for 10 secs or so,
after that it seems that the options "hardware acceleration" is turned on automatically and
                      SU crashes,
restarting it I find the "hardware acceleration" option is turned on.

I tried many times, to set the option off, quit the program, etc ...
                      It automatically retruns to ON.

I tried SU 6 and SU 7, same result.

                      Any ideas ??

(ps: I dont know why, but new files start withount Sang ...)

In case anyone has the same problem:
I finally find the solution (in my situation).

The computers I was trying to install SU on,
had an Integrated Graphic Processor AND a video card.
I finally discovered that by desabling the IGP
                        (from system->hardware->devices->video cards)
                        SU works fine.
