Why vote Obama?
-
Palin taxed the oil companies and gave the money to Alaskans. That is not spreading the wealth? I don't expect to change any anti-Obama voters' minds, but I would at least ask them to take a breath and think of what they actually know about him - not based on what they have heard just from Republicans, but from other sources. He is not a socialist, Marxist, or terrorist. He is not against the second ammendment. Contrary to what you are getting from your party, most liberals have jobs.
Finally, when this is over, hopefully, we will have change and we will have two people who are qualified to be president, and we will have intelligence and dignity and vision restored to the White House.
It is sad for me to see so much conservative knee-jerk reaction - when conservatism used to be a proud, intellectual movement. Now it just seems based on fear and propaganda. Fight, fight, fight - that's what I hear from McCain. Well, fighting is not going to get us where we want to go - we have to be smart enough to work together, to find new solutions, and to innovate ourselves out of this crisis.

Wonderful article Paul, thoughtful sentiments Pete...thanks!

Glad you think my picture is funny.
No, I was laughing at your statements following it...here's a couple of factual definitions of the words you are throwing around:
Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society.
Now this is who we have always been as a country...and I'm all for it:
Egalitarianism (derived from the French word égal, meaning equal) is a political doctrine that holds that all people should be treated as equals and have the same political, economic, social, and civil rights.[1] Generally it applies to being held equal under the law and society at large.

No matter who wins or loses. . .I will just be glad when it's over. Hasn't this campaign gone on long enough?????

It IS a proud and intellectual movement. In no way does John McCain represent true conservatism. As I've said before, the liberals of old were dignified and intellectual, like Patrick Moynihan. Now you guys have Pelosi, Reid, Franks, Dodd. These are NOT dignified individuals. They are ruining your party, just like Bush, Stevens, Hatch are ruining the Republican party.
At least I have the clarity of thought to see this.

Technically, he may not be a terrorist, but the other descriptions apply. He has terrorists as friends. I've done plenty of independent research from multiple sources on these issues. So much, it is hard for me to keep up with it all. It is a fact that 84% of the American people oppose redistribution of wealth. Look It Up!!!! (Karl Marx, "from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs". Obama, "spread the wealth around". It doesn't get more Marxist than that.)
What amazes me is that quotes such as yours are so blatantly in disregard of the facts. It is simply hope and infatuation, and did I mention, hope, that drives the followers of Obama. Have more than a fraction of his followers even read short excerpts from his book? In his book, he says he made sure to connect with Marxist professors and like minded students while in college. Do they even listen to the WBEZ interview (I posted a link above)? I have no idea where you get the stats about "most liberals have jobs" (BTW, that '3' letter word that Biden speaks about???). But again, that is typical of the Obama Kool Aid drinkers. I've never seen as many vacuous arguments for a candidate as I have for Obama.

Boy, isn't this the truth.

Where, pray tell, did you get the idea that this country is all about economic equality? You can't be serious. EDIT: This country IS all about giving everyone the same economic opportunity, however.

A few facts might be helpful. Alaska has no state income tax since they reap revenue from their windfall profits tax on the oil industry. They then distribute some of this to their citizens. This tax was in place long before Palin. She did, however, push through and increase in this tax.
So, to say Palin taxed the oil companies and gave the money to Alaskans is a little disingenuous. Please, just the facts, Maam.

lmfao
You guys are scampering now.
Hey I guess the results will show what America really wants .... looking grim for your opinion at moment.
I heard the arguement about Obama buying the election with all his fund raising money and all, then realised how so American of him, as we buy anything that's advertised on TV, why not our vote .... gotta love the American dream.
-
What are you laughing about? The facts regarding the oil tax sharing policy in Alaska? Facts only, please. I'm well aware where McCain stands...he deserves it. Obama doesn't deserve the presidency. I'm not scampering, I'm just parsing the bullshit around here, that's all.
EDIT: I find it interesting that for all these years the liberals chastised the conservatives about their "love" of money and now that Obama has tons of it, nary a word. I'm sick of all the hypocrisy, everywhere. There is little honor anymore; in character and in morals.
-
There is still HOPE, maybe the wednesday evening message from Obama will give you clarity and resurrect you from the dark side.
-
I'll trust you to tell me what he said. It will be the same old yarn re-woven.

Didn't say that quickdraw...note "rights" sim. "opportunity".
-
A little preview of Wednesday (Ron, about 6:30 in you'll find Barack agrees with you about economic opportunity :`)
-
This issue of economic rights he speaks of is not a new thought or concept. This country was founded on the principle of all men being created equal with equal access to the bounties of this wonderful land.
People are just eating up this nitwit's oratory skills. This is how gullible they are. It's all about the sheen and nothing about the substance. He's nothing more than a snake oil salesman with a huge advertising budget.

You know, I will take the so called 'snake oil' you refer to with pleasure and even pay tax on it, as long as I do not get 4 more years of absolute crap and destruction, rediculous spending, war mongering, millionare favoring, internationaly alienating, nation dividing, lobbyist loving, catch phrase spinning, cloak and dagger leading bunch f*cks that have destroyed this country for the last 8 years. And you and I know Mccain is the same no matter how he tries to deny it.

Has Obama ever commented on Echelon?

Here's one reason to vote Obama.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HCXqKEs68XkGiven that she was addressing the funding for autism; and that recent studies using fruit flies have isolated a protein called neurexin which is vital for proper neurological functioning (quite apart from the obvious fact that all of modern genetics is based on the study of the little critters), maybe she's right. Maybe the money would be better spent on research into something like bluebirds...like the one's circling in that clear blue space between her ears.

Pete,
Having read what you wrote, you seem to be holding back. Try to get your feelings out there.
So tell me. How do you really feel about the upcoming election and the candidates?
Allen

Do you mind if I try to formulate my opinion (and hopes) while we're waiting for Pete?
As it stands now, the United States scare me. The past years, they have shown a total and utterly cynical lack of respect for international law, human rights, the UN - you name it. I know some will regard me an extremist nut because of this (which in itself is, as far as I'm concerned, totally bonkers - the world upside down), but I feel that, currently, the US are a so-called 'rogue state' - a dangerous, heavily armed Einzelgänger.
I hope Barack Obama will change this. Furthermore, I hope that, if McCain wins, and if he continues the US's current approach, Europe will finally do something. No, no idea what.
I hope that, after 8 years of politicial and moral obscurantism, the more enlightened part of the American electorate will finally get a chance to weigh upon the US's policies.
