This is going to be built on an existing plinth in an old shopping centre in Nairobi (I say this to explain the funny colours/upstand beams in pics below). Unfortunately I have to keep the pink.

The roof thatch is Solo's (thanks Solo)
The Siding is Modelhead's (thanks Modelhead)

This is very much a work in progress. I'm still working on adding the surroundings but I want to make sure I've got the building right first, i.e. transparency of the glass, adding knots to the timber siding, getting a jaggedy edge to the roof thatch and to bump map it properly (any ideas anyone?).

Please feel free to give criticism (constructive and insultive)

-Edit- I've just seen Modelhead's post in the corner bar regarding pop ups on Image shack. Bear with me while I get these pics on to a more suitable site

Insultive? No way! I like the way you've made use of a seemingly useless space. The design's height seems a good response to having the shop be seen from the lower area where you have to see up over those ramp walls. Given that it seems to be seen mostly from below I wonder about the thatched roof. If that's an inexpensive way to roof in your area I suppose it makes sense. If it comes at a premium over other options I'd suggest it isn't worth any added expense. From the low vantage point the roof seems relatively invisible.

It's funny to call a charity shop a "Love Shack". While I can see the love part and understand the name the first thing 'Love Shack' brought to mind was a store that sells sex toys! Could be a cultural thing.

Redot, please be sure to post pics when the shop is constructed.

        Regards, Ross

          Thanks Ross,

The budget for this shop is "as cheap as possible". 'Makuti' thatch is made from coconut palm leaves and is as cheap as roof coverings come here. The whole construction should cost approx US$4,000.

The charity is called Love Shack as it cares for Sick, Homeless and Abandoned Children in Kenya.
The large sign on the wall is maybe not such a great idea, looking at it now I see what you mean about a sex shop. Don't want to get gimps and doggers in there do we? A small subtle sign by the door should suffice.

I'll be sure to post the pics when the building is done.

          Cheers,

          Ed
