First try with KT
-
First try SU straight over to KT... added some reflectivity and that's about it. Lemme know what you think...

Nice start mathew, although you could do with making the floor a lot less shiny. Its pretty overwhelming at the moment. Itd be worth having a play around with bumpmaps, i think they could add a lot to your renders.
Nice sky btw

For your first try that's really really good. Might I ask, did you use GI or standard RayTracing?
-
MLT
-
Like others already have stated... Very nice start..!!
Although I have to agree that the floor doesn't look natural...
I assume that you already know, but in case you don't, please note that you can download a lot of pre-made floor materials from the KT download section...
((Lis) Wooden Floors, Wood materials by Darren (Sintra), Wood materials part 1, Wood materials part 2 and woodplanks)For the exterior shots, I wouldn't use MLT, but instead I suggest you try preset no. 17 Path Tracing Progressive...
For the interior shots, I'm sure you can adjust the exposure a bit to make it a little brighter...But like I said - all in all a very good start..!!

Results from trying again with a few bump maps and preset #17...
-
Although 17 (progressive trace) seems to take FOREVER! (5 hours for those very small images...) could I be doing something wrong in the "scene" or "render" settings?
Oh! I just noticed you said EXTERIOR... that would be why these looked really wierd until I fixed the exposure as they are INTERIOR. I learned my lesson β next time I will READ more carefully! Haah.

Good stuff, id say they were a definite improvement
Good floor as well, got a good shinyness/bumpiness balance going.
-
Path Tracing Progressive should primary be used for exterior scenes only lit by the sun...For scenes where the lightning is more complex you should use one of the PM presets or the unbiased methods (MLT, BiPT, MLT/BiPT)...
