I have a consultation with regard to the hardware of computers, now I have a medium machine, an Athlon 64 X2 4800 with 2 GB of ram and video card of 256, I would like to know whether the programs that I use (SketchUp and Kerkythea) improve somewhat in the lead to 4 gb ram taking into account the programming of these two software would know someone respond? greetings

Im not entirely sure about kerkythea, but i dont think SU would benefit especially form more RAM. If you want to increase the speed of SU and kerkythea you really want to get a processor with a few cores and a high clock rate, quite a bit pricier than more ram though.

Su will benefit from RAM, but only up to 3 GB.
Every Gig you put extra in your rig will NOT be used by sketchup.
Why? Sketchup is a 32 bit app only. To adress more than 3Gb, Sketchup should be a 64 bit app (on a 64 bit OS off course).

A 64 bit version of Setchup should be on top of the To-Do list for SU 7.
If it is not....SU is not ready for the (near) future (not even for present day if you ask me).

A multicore PC will improve indirectly your editing speed, as you can have more than 1 application open without a speed drop.
However.....Don't expect a big speed improvement when SU is the only running app.
Current Sketchup is a monocore app, meaning all the SU activity is combined into 1 process (directed to 1 processor core).

This also is something SU 7 should adress ASAP.

Well, it's a boring story really...... The number of posts about this handicap must be over a quadzilion by now.

Not that it would make a difference anyway....

thanks for the responses, the theme of going from 2 to 4 GB of ram is above all to continue working on DUAL CHANEL as a microprocessor cores
