What graphics cards are people using with sketchup? i had a ati x1950 pro which worked but didn't have any opengl settings. i recently upgraded to a hd 3870 which didn't work at all with SU and wouldn't allow me to select any faces no matter what settings were on/off.

Search the forum posts for discussions on this topic. Stick with NVidea (recommended by Google) and buy the best one you can afford. Personally I have had fantastic results with the Nvidea Quadro cards but many here may feel that it is too pricey.

Tip: Whatever you do make sure you take advice from someone who has actually used the specific hardware you prefer instead of relying on untested opinions.

Before guying, have a look at the topic I'm about to start. Comparison between my nVidia 8800 GTX and my nVidia FX 3500.

From what I'm told the 9800 GTX is virtually the same as the 8800 GTX. The GPU is the same except it was manufactured on a smaller die process (making it run cooler and require less power) and the memory interface and RAM amount changed.

So if the 8800 GTX works well, which it does (I know, I used it in my machine until I got my FX card), then the 9800 GTX should work well too.

As far as the GX2 is concerned, it is basically a SLI configuration except it is on one GFX card. IIRC I've read somewhere about people with SLI configurations using SketchUp and it worked fine, except there wasn't much point in having the SLI setup as SketchUp didn't really benefit from it.

I tried putting my old x1950 back in and have the same problem as with the 3870 now! Even did a clean boot and same problem again. I decided its Win XP SP3 that disables all ati face selection in SU, i found some other posts online from people with similar issues after updating to SP3. Stupid Microsoft!

SOLVED IT! Its the stupid newest ATI driver version, 8.6. I reinstalled 8.4 and it works like i expected it should. Stupid ATI! So if anyone else is having similar problems with ATI cards, install catalyst 8.4.

Can you tell me which drivers you are using?
My works computer has this card and I am still having problems after trying several different drivers.
