Apt. Renovation in downtown Atlanta

Here is an apt building we are doing renovations to... I'll include a picture of the original also. Let me know what ya think! The original image that was given to us was of the back of the building and the rendering was done to show the front of the building the see that entrance. You get the idea...

Great scene and great modeling.
Is that side of the building always in shade? If not I would show the time of day when there is sunlight as it is a bit dark.

Yea Boo... we had that debate here at work. I know it would look better with the sun oriented more toward the front but in reality the sun never even sees the front soo... I decided to make it as realistic as possible and that meant facing the sun in the proper orientation. Maybe you professionals could give me your opinion on what you would've done?!

Nice modeling.
If the rendering is just to illustrate the design and not a shadow study, I'd probably adjust the sun so it isn't in shadow. Or, perhaps use a view from the opposite side. -
I couldn't have used the opposite side because they wanted to see the front entrance. I guess next time I will adjust the orientation to the front of the building even if it is wrong...

It depends on the client and their objective. If they want the most realistic, "correct" version then you had no option. If they wanted the best looking render to sell the apartment building to banks, apartment buyers etc then they might have been very agreeable to "artistic licence".
It looks like an excellent rendering and modelling to me.
A question about the renovations:
Will the brickwork be treated so that it looks better, or is the difference in appearance just the difference between "real life" and a computer rendering?

The brick will definitely be treated. I'm not sure exactly how they're going to do it but...

It is a toss up. If it were me I would not represent something that is not true. It just seems that is when you get burned by someone noticing it and then you have to explain. I might have given them a night render more from the parking lot level looking up and that way you can light the apartments and entryway. I would not do a night as a main render unless requested but it would be a nice addition.
Beautiful render none the less. What renderer did you use?

Scott, I did a quick night rendering but I did not like how it came out. My boss asked that I do one even though I told him that I've not quite got the whole night rendering process figured out yet. So I attempted anyway just to see what I could do. Oh, and I use Kerkythea for all my PR rendering needs! I can't afford to purchase all the other ones for obvious reasons!

John beat me to it. I would light some of the apartments to give it more of a realistic look. Maybe shoot a render from the parking lot level up the front of the building.

I think overall the night render is good. Just get those lights to soften up a bit.
