3D Basecamp - "The Best of Ruby" presentation
-
I will be presenting at 3D Basecamp this year.
(insert cricket chirping sound here....)
The topic is "The Best of Ruby".
Google and I have traded several emails, and we both think it best to let the user community provide input into which Ruby's will be highlighted in this presentation.
Therefore, please post your thoughts for which Ruby scripts you would like to see highlighted during this presentation. I am open to presenting any and all Ruby scripts. This will be an objective presentation about scripts the user community likes, without bias. There will most certainly be ruby scripts that I too need to brush up on, so the quicker we pick them, the better for me!
Could this get a Sticky please? Thanks everyone!

Well i nominate joint push/pull and offset on surface, brill scripts the both of them.
-
Ok, thanks.
Here are some other's I'll hang out there for comment:
Component Spray Tool
Subdivide and Smooth
Soap Skin Bubble
Sketchy Physics
Free Form Deformation -
Do these plugins have to mostly ruby based? i mean does say lightup count?
-
Well, the presentation is titled "The Best of Ruby"... but go ahead and mention it.
-
Ok, well lightup and podium would be cool, although theyre not very ruby.
TIGs roof script would be cool as well, and perhaps zorro.
-
And the oldie but goodie Windowizer deserves a mention too.

If I may suggest 'Cutlist and Materials'.
Very useful for generating quantites/sizes/materials lists of all sorts of items for construction drawings(cabinets, bricks, wall panels, joists, and so on) and if combined with 'Select by layer' is very quick and easy to generate seperate lists of different items.
Also has a nice interface with options for output in a variety of formats.

I have to say I use may other rubys and nothing compares to Whaat's "subdivide and smooth"!
I do not mean to take away from other ruby's, all of them are great! It is just that Whaat's ruby will change the way people model within Sketchup.

OK, I have looked at the Smustard and Ruby Depot Library websites and can't seem to find this Ruby script.
Can you provide a link to download from?
Thanks.Mr S
Ignore this post, i have just seen in a different thread (dated april 21st 2008) that Whaat estimates this will be available in 10 days.
-
He's probably a beta tester.
-
Yes, I am a beta tester but you can view the thread here:

Don't forget "windowizer" one of the first most powerful scripts created.I use it all the time in architecture. It has other uses as well.

Anssi did not forget it just above you a few paces
Ones I use quite a bit and could be mentioned are:
Mirror
Remove all materials
Purge
SPT Copy (for making tuts)This is of course in addition to all the greats already mentioned.

Thanks everyone. This is all good input. I think you've all helped me pick my short list, but will be prepared with others as well.
Mods - you can unstick now if you want.
Thanks! Todd

I think TIG's roof script is pretty useful and cool.
-
How about Darrel's (ArchitectBoy's) Skin.rb?
Yes, I know it needs a bit of polishing but what a fantastic script! (BTW where has he been lately?).I use some of these scripts, Todd - if you need ideas about how to present some extremely cool features of them, let me know. Also, Jonathan emailed me as well.
Made sticky then unsticky. So much about being away for a couple of days...
-
Of course the makers of the export plugins for the free renderers (Indigo, Kerkythea, POV...) have done a fantastic job too.
