Is this your design? What's hysterical about it?

Is the wooden part the addition?

I see no great problem about this kind of approach to restoration, even if the age and simplicity of the original might also allow a more free way of treating the addition, if the situation is itself not too sensitive. Of course, if the surroundings are very uniform and well preserved from the same period, a more "modernist" attitude would perhaps stick out too much. But this is an ever ongoing debate...

Clean and informative presentation-maybe it should include an image of the "before" state.

          want it rendered?
i also agree with the addition of a "before" picture.

"Hysterical" is just a humorous play on words - we do quite a bit of historical restoration work conforming to the secretary of the interior's standards. Yes, the wooden part is the addition. I didn't design it, but I detailed it and made it real. The modeling is all my work. I made a poster with those three images and the floor plans, with the addition poche'd to denote the addition, but it is too large to post here.

Here's a picture of the building before work, from the rear. The front was in a bit better condition.

you want it rendered? PM me with the file. (if you do, it will be the first PM to me in my history of posting on various forums. im usualy realativly un-loved on forums, this place seems to like me).

In the United States 1820 is an historical building... If you were in Spain you would shout and scream of terror with such modern buildings ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Thank you for the offer to render the model, igor. This is an office project, so I am not at liberty to share the model. Plus, I like the raw SU images for this project.

In Finland, too, a building that old is quite rare. We have a little more than 100 late medieval stone churches, 7 more or less ruined late medieval fortresses but the bulk of our buildings are less than a hundred years old. Of course, during the history, wood has been the prevailing building material, so rot and/or fire has been the fate of most old houses. I live in the second oldest town with the oldest mentions of it in documents from the late 1300s, but during the history it has burnt down several times, so the oldest buildings except the late medieval church are from the mid-1700s.
