      Hi All

Both Win 2k and XP will access 3.4 GB of ram.(if you have 4GB installed)
Just find BOOT.ini and add the /3GB switch at the
      end of the string....../fastopen/3GB

Go to system properties (win key+pause break) to check.
Thanks go to Alain Picard of Abvent/Artlantis for this trick.

IIRC if you have XP SP2 it will do it automatically. I know when I built my new machine (XP SP2 32 bit) I installed the 4GB RAM and later when I enabled the 3GB / PAE extensions it didn't make a difference.

Win XP 32 can acccess from 2.7 Gb to 3.5 under some conditions and /3gb in boot.ini.

4Gb in 32 bit is more complicated.

For example, on Asus Motherboards (P965 or P35 Chipset) you have to disable memory remap feature on NorthBridge.

But most 32-bit software have access only to 2 Gb memory max.

IMHO it is better in this case to use Windows (XP or Vista) 64 bit.

Be careful, not all machines running xp 64 bit will access the full amount of ram. It depends if your chipset supports it or not, this has happened to me recently i bought a Dell Precision M90 notebook and found this out. I have a machine with 4gb of ram but can only access about 3.4gb, so just a word of warning.

            Kind regards

            Darren

64-bit Windows by default can access up to 128 Gb Ram.

I have 8Gb Ram on my system running XP-64 and bios and windows regognise all.

              Laptops are another story.

              Regards,

              George
