    Hi all,

I will be using this thread for my animation experiments:

Those are great Chris, whats the process and render times?

Can you do a staionary animation with only sun movements, hence shadows only move?

        Thank you Pete.

To render an animation using Skindigo, you set up the animation the same way as a plain SU animation, meaning you make some 'scenes' ('pages' in SU5) and the in between frames will be generated automatically. After setting the render settings, a batch.exe will be generated.
Double clicking that file will start the rendering of all frames and those will be saved as .png image files which you can import in the free 'windows movie maker' to make a .avi or .wmv.

For these animations I set the render time to 1 minute for each frame (in reality total render time per frame was 1,5 minutes because of precalculation phase).

        I used a framerate of 10 frames/second. This means a render time of 10 X 1.5 minutes= 15 minutes per second of film.

Thus, for a 30 second movie, the render time is : 7.5 hours.

A stationary movie with just the sun rotating is possible yes...I'll try that later on ๐Ÿ˜‰

A QUICK GUIDE TO SAVE THE BATCH.EXE FILE

Actually, rendering animations is a hidden feature.
To use it, go to the render settings screen of Skindigo ---> 'options' tab.
Double click on the words 'output options'.
A window will pop up that lets you save the batch.exe.
It will ask you which framerate you want.
I chose 10 frames per second, but for a really smooth animation consider 25 fps (if you have a render farm ๐Ÿ˜‰)

Whaat inserted this 'easter egg' in his last Skindigo version.
          Funny guy ๐Ÿ˜„....but very talented.

HOW TO SETUP RENDER TIME PER FRAME

Easy: go to 'render settings panel' ---> 'Advanced' Tab.
Set the time you want each frame to be rendered at 'Halt'.
          For instance 60 seconds.

Now if you could save s sketchy physics animation as a series of scenes...

Good stuff kwist, ive jsut started a really quick animation of my own going. I'll never have a spare rendering moment left now!

Used straight SU model quick animation 15fps 11 minutes to render sequence as .gif in Vue.

                    11 minutes ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ...
That puts things in perspective ๐Ÿ˜†

I was already happy to have a video done in 5 or 6 hours ...and it is noisy as hell ๐Ÿ˜„

                    Lots of fun though.

                    Solo,
What about a full scene (yep, vegetation included) rendered in Vue?
That would be interesting to compare.....

                      What size output?

I will set one up tomorrow (got two renders running at moment).

I will add vegetation, mountains, moving water, and moving physical sky(clouds and sun going from day to night) which should complicate things enough.

Did a quick one with Vue 6 Xstream.
Procedural terrain with vegetation instancing, 15 fps, 91 frames, 430x320, on Imac g5 intel, 21 minutes.

Did a quick one this morning, using a procedural terrain with water. The animation is just a camera fly-over.Vue xstream at final setting, 180 frames, 15fps, 500x420, 12 seconds, on a G5 imac, 1hour 21 mins.
Too bad about the youtube quality as original is crisp

a terrain of this size would be a tough customer in SU to navigate.

I need to wait for my quads to be free before trying more complexed models (use all cores).
here is another done on a dual core G5 Imac.
This time I used a Phillipe Bouyer scene, inserted a SU 3D SCF Model. Notice the sun rise and the wind effects on the trees, as well as the camera is effected by wind as it tracks the sun.
15fps,121 frames total 8 seconds, 640x400, Final settings, 42 minutes.

This one took 67 minutes to render, has been looped once, The sky changes, snow falls, leaves disapear, leaves and grass change color, new trees grow, camera on circular rotation, SU built logo is stationary. based on Phillipe Bouyer's tutorial.

This is the animation, done with Vue, 10 seconds, 150 frames. 600x400, done with quad core, 27 minutes.

                                        [flash=600,400:258qsjht]http://www.youtube.com/v/YwLoUeSYz5s[/flash:258qsjht]

However from frame 97 to 101 appears a strange reflection on the glass (from one of the legs) that looks almost like something one can sell on Ebay to a religious nutcase for a fortune.
