Is there any way to stop snapping?

the topic shows my question . i.e. in autocad we can stop auto snap . i dont know is there any way to do this in SU?

What do you mean by default toolset? I'd too be interested in getting a way of turning off snapping. Now with sub divide and smooth coming and SketchUp going in a direction with more soft objects modelling I believe it would be a great feature to be able to turn snap off.

The tools that come with Sketchup - Move, Rectangle, Scale, blah blah blah.

I mean modelling non geometric hard surfaces. Like a human.

Would it be possible to create ruby versions of the "default tools" that can be used without snapping?

Sure. Except for the Dimension Tool, since they are not supported from Ruby. There might be other little gotchya's.

Also, where did you pick up that Sketchup ("Google") was taking SketchUp more in the direction of soft modeling?

I just meant that several new rubys are in the works that will make modelling soft objects easier. Like the Subdivide and smooth script.

Just have the line follow the mouse pointer and where ever the user clicks, the line stays, ignoring every element in your model and taking nothing about other objects, 3D space or planes into consideration.

Does that sound like a product you want to use? There would be no depth perception whatsoever.

One option is to use construction lines - The only snap on a construction line is "on line"
