Wintopo - Raster to Vector converter
-
Wintopo is great for converting raster to vector or hand drawn scrawl to nice neat dxf. The free version is very good, I'm using it today to sort out a load of scanned drawings from a client. The key is to set the tolerance in the vector extraction options, I use a tolerance of about 20 - 50 pixels depending on the amount of scrawl. It's really easy to use.

Yeah, I have also used it though my experiences are mixed.
-
Works fine if you set the tolerance.

May try again, thanks for the tip!

However good they are "you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear" and most of the drawings where we could use it are real sows ears!!

Peter,
It's just a way to transfer stuff from raster to vector. It's always going to involve some clean-up. If the original drawing isn't even to scale though it's probably useless.
I'm drawing up parts of a large steel sculpture, all originally drawn accurately to scale. Vectorising the drawings is relatively effortless and accurate enough for the contractor.
