Thanks for the newsletter. Looking forward to the next installment already.

Well done Coen ... Clean and Crisp

Ok. Please don't shoot me down in flames for this, but my first impressions on seeing the newsletter were "wow, what a good idea". Then I started reading it and this soon changed to "Am I just being marketed to here?...". Did anyone else here feel this? It just seems very out of place when the reason a lot of people came here in preference to G Groups was that they wanted to avoid banner ads ??

Coen, Ton:
Great job! Professional and quite personable...I really enjoyed it (and the moderator profile is a nice touch :0)
Thanks and best, Tom.
Rob...banner adds? (maybe I need new eyes :`)
-
Sorry Tom - not banner ads but G ads. No ads in the newsletter but over half the newsletter is devoted to Hypercosm. Is this forum now commercial rather than donation funded?
-
Great news letter. Well done to all involved. It kind of reminded me of the "news letter" that got started a few years back on the old SU forum but died out due to lack of support. I hope this one will continue because some of us don't keep up with day to day activities here and may this letter will "force" us, I know it will me, to keep up with the times.
Thanks again!

I liked it. I thought it was informative. Nice work Coen! I definitely like the idea of the interview and the spotlight, I like to see what cool stuff others are doing with SU.
-
Then no, Rob, there are a lot of uses and plugins for SU I am not aware of and the personal touch of this interview was good for me. Best, Tom.
-
for me it kind of felt like an alumni newsletter, except with more interesting content to me.

no... that just happened because it was the first issue and we happened to have both an industry proefssional with a big name availble and there was also a company available to look inside.
in the future we will have more to pool from... we just thought up this idea like I think a week ago maybe two... COen has really poured some "SUOL" in to it...
-
I think he means subversive advertising or underlying advertising..
-
well, commercial would be an unfair or biased review... this is just a review. and we happened to do two segments with the same company kinda...
nothing to worry about.
-
Guys -- you did a great job. Don't let the 'too commercial' comments bum you out from doing another just the same. I'm sure the vast majority of readers appreciated your newsletter even if they haven't commented.
Regards, Ross

I never got a newsletter. Had to go to the link to read it.
I think it is wonderful and I got the warm and fuzzies reading it. Leave it as is. Most of us understand that to stay afloat, a little business can sometimes creep in. S'kay with me. -
Great jobs guys,
Thanks for the great newletter. Any product that helps me develop is more than welcome. Keep them coming please.
Thanks
Alan. -
Not to speak about the fact that Hypercosm does not only offer the "commercial" (pay) version of its teleporter but also a free one.
-
great pic Ross... it's awesome... not so mean

I was just amazed the web cam worked! If I could grab and hold on to any emotion I think the best would be wide-eyed amazement. Wouldn't it would be great to live life in a constant state of amazement? Might be awkward at times (like at funerals) but for the most part it would be pretty good.
Better than being bummed out

Hi Rob,
I think the main reason many people came here is because of the easy navigation and style of this forum. I'm 100% sure that if Google SketchUp had offered a similar replacement forum even with some side / banner adds very few would have moved.
I use Gmail as one of my everyday email addresses and the little bit of unobtrusive advertising does not bother me in the slightest, in fact I often find it useful. Its a fantastic free email account and I would have paid for it!
I doubt very much that this forum will survive on casual donations unless Coen decides to stop eating and take up residence in the local park! I am aware that he is presently running things on a shoe string, not easy going at all.
I would have no objection if advertising was to become part of this site in the future allowing it to grow and further develop in the training / education fields of SketchUp and other related CAD programs. Having to 'put up' with a small amount of advertising would be a small price to pay for this.
Nothing in life is free
Mike
