So I just bought a brand new nVidia 8800 GTX 768MB graphics card. I should have it by Friday.

I've long been an ATi supporter and thought it good to see what "the dark side" is like.

The card is much more powerful than my current ATi X1950GT 512MB, so I'm expecting quite a bit form it.

BTW, anybody here know of a driver/bios hack to turn this badboy into a Quadro card?

OK, so I collected it this morning, will get to open and install it a little later when I have more time.

I downloaded a 3rd party application (Driver Sweeper from Guru3D) to remove all remnants of GFX card drivers seeing that I currently have a totally different GFX card from another manufacturer.

        Procedure will be as follows:

        1. Create a System Restore point.
        2. Uninstall drivers from control panel. Restart machine.
        3. Boot up in Safe mode, run 3rd party app to remove driver remnants. Shut machine down.
        4. Open PC case, uninstall GFX card. Install new GFX card. Close case. Restart machine.
        5. Boot up, install latest drivers for new GFX card.
        6. Enjoy new GFX card!

BTW, I have not been able to find any reference that this GFX card can be modded to a Quadro card.

          Juju,

I just picked up the BFG 8800GTX myself, haven't received it yet but you'll have to let me know how you like it so far.

Not sure how Sketchup will see a better boost in speed, but when i'm geeking out it'll be worth the price 😄

          take care,
          nchander

I haven't had any problems, then again my old ATi didn't give me any hassles either.

This card is powerful, but if I had to do it again I'd get the nVidia GTS 512MB, it seems like it is at least as quick (in some tests quicker) than the GTX, it uses less energy (and thus dissapates less heat) and is much cheaper.

The crowd test runs more than satisfactory, I timed and compared it to what Tom is getting with his nVidia Quadro FX1700 and it is similar (sometimes quicker) than what he seems to be getting from the FX1700.

              Hope it helps...

It cannot be. For my understanding at the moment only ati cards can be softmodded to "pro" firegl.
