            I really like the roof in the first image. It looks like you created it from actual geometry, not a bump map..

                                          i tried KT Brush over a bush i separately inserted and merged whit a leaf, and here is the draft render result , maybe it is good for mid-distance foliages . u may improve this idea using flowers ... bushes , trees ...or people ..
