Controlling the sketchy controllers
-
I teach at a technical college and REALLY jazzed about sketchy physics as well as sketch-up in general.
I'm really digging the controllers for all the new joints but wonder if anyone is figuring out a way to control the controllers from another program. If my mouse on the screen in controlling the slider bar it shouldn't be too much of a push to have a program do the same.
Any ideas....I presume is is a Ruby issue but flash me some insight and GET THIS PROGRAM OUT TO THE HIGH SCHOOLS. We need kids to invent and not just play solitaire and mindsweeper.

Maybe. What did you have in mind?

To tell you the truth Chris...I'm not sure.
The first is the evangelism out to the high schools...I really think that google should be reaching out to the "project lead the way" and like engineering/creativity efforts. I will remain an ardent supporter of Autocad as it still has a pretty big footprint in industry but SKETCHUP ROCKS.
As to the controlling the controllers I'm just curious how the links work from the controllers and what it would take to have more than 4 being controlled. I will keep reading up on Ruby when the time permits but now that I have found the F-16 and borrowed a Xbox360 controller who knows if I will get anything education pushing done.
I'll keep looking for controller insights and talk to the folk using PLC's and legos.
Cheers.

I am a high school teacher in NJ and am currently introducing students to this version even though it is still in beta. The bugs are small and so far the kids love it. This is in my robotics class I just started and am trying to get them away from building simple robots with legos and actually have something with movement and controls through the computer. This program could not have come at a better time. I am struggling with the program slightly but I feel that the students and I will learn side by side for now.
By the way, a logitech usb control pad went right into my computer and worked instantly. no problems, now all I would like to see is the use of the buttons for something.

Buttons will work in the next version. Whenever that is .

Very old topic i'm replying to...but relevant still.
I was looking for a method to control the Sketchy Controllers via a web dialog box in sketchup. I basically want to change the interface of the sliders to other controls....drop downs, or some other html control...and have it control the sliders or directly control the joints themselves...either way.
I'm sure this is possible now...but, I can't seem to find any references to it.
Thanks,
Joe
