Bought myself a new laptop for Christmas: a Dell Vostro 1500, Intel Core Duo T7500, 4GB Ram, 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, Windows XP Pro SP2. I knew it would perform better than my desktop, but was surprised at how fast it is. Crowd test performed as follows: no hesitation rotating components at all (turned to wireframe in scene 9), and no hesitation turning on shadows until scene 10 (10 seconds; 26 seconds on scene 11).

The only drawbacks are it's small screen (15.4" - used to 20"), and it makes my desktop (Dual Pentium 4, 3GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE) seem ancient in comparison. Now I need to decide should I replace the desktop CPU, or replace the graphics card.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking along the same lines as far as the graphics card. Unfortunately, don't have the room for two monitors.
