Here's another use by one of my favorite practices- Samuel Mockbee's Rural Studio. Rural Studio used carpet tiles to build a house.

I've actually been wondering what to do with all the insulated glass samples...I must have two dozen or so in my basement. I can't bring myself to dispose of them (especially the ones fritted with odd patterns), but individually that 1' x 1' square size is a little odd...by itself too big for a single window pane but too small for a window.

Jeff, that is cool. There are 2 intern architects in my office that did a Dogtrot house in the Rural Studio.

How do you back your carpet tiles to make area rugs? I just laid quite a bit of laminate flooring and we need some rugs. We also have a ton of samples around the office.

I love the Rural Studio work. Mockbee was the man. Cool stuff. I'm going to try a similar project in my backyard. It will be a one or two person getaway with one bookshelf and a chair– a cocoon-like get away from the kids.

I just use heavy duty carpet tape and then lay them on a a felt of foam backer. Stays together pretty well and if one of the tiles gets stained or frayed at the edges, then you take it out and pop another in. I just made one for my son's room. I've got a picture somewhere. Looks pretty good.

Here's some more recycled carpet and fabric furniture. It's a chair made by a group called Droog. I just sat in a couple last week at a showroom at NeoCon in Chicago. Pretty hard!
