Hi, I'm going to buy a new laptop that will be my main computer and I want to be sure that it will work fine with SketchUp.

I use SketchUp (and sometimes AutoCAD) for landscape architecture and urban planning. Moreover I use Microsoft Office and some Adobe applications (Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign).

I have to choose one of the following laptops:

    1) HP ZBOOK STUDIO G3

    • OS Windows 7/10 Pro 64 bit
    • CPU i7-6700HQ
    • RAM 8GB DDR4 (Max 32GB)
    • SSD 256GB
    • GPU Nvidia Quadro M1000M (4GB DDR5)
    • FHD 15.6" display (1920x1080) IPS matte
    • Battery 64 WHr
    • Size: 375 x 255 x 18 mm
    • Weight: 2 kg
    • Warranty 3 years
    • Price: € 1200

    2) DELL XPS 15

    • OS Windows 10 Home 64 bit
    • CPU i7-6700HQ
    • RAM 8GB DDR4 (Max 32GB)
    • SSD 256GB
    • GPU GeForce GTX 960M (2GB DDR5)
    • FHD 15.6" display (1920x1080) IPS matte
    • Battery 84 WHr
    • Size: 357 x 235 x 17 mm
    • Weight: 2 kg
    • Warranty 2 years
    • Price: € 1400

    3) DELL XPS 15

    • OS Windows 10 Home 64 bit
    • CPU i7-6700HQ
    • RAM 16GB DDR4 (Max 32GB)
    • SSD 512GB
    • GPU GeForce GTX 960M (2GB DDR5)
    • FHD 15.6" display (1920x1080) IPS matte
    • Battery 84 WHr
    • Size: 357 x 235 x 17 mm
    • Weight: 2 kg
    • Warranty 2 years
    • Price: € 1580

    What laptop should I buy?

    Thank you!

I would start by buying SketchUp Pro, the Make (free) version is for hobbyists and not for commercial application.

Then I would pick either no. 2 or 3 (your budget dependent), Quadro GFX cards currently offer no advantage in SketchUp.

Save the Earth, it's the only planet with chocolate.
