I've been looking around for a well spec'd eBike. Something that can get up a head of steam and is comfortable also at reasonable cost.

Yesterday I came across the Wave Electric and it ticks all the right boxes for me at $549 currently. Its an Indiegogo campaign and has achieved its initial target goal of $70,000 and is now at over $400,000. With 33 days left it looks that the Wave Team could well achieve the $1,000,000+ mark.

Due to the overwhelming response the standard bike will now include free perks as follows,

      Front Removable Basket
      Thick Tire Tubes
      Matte Black
      Battery Charger
      Extra Battery Charger
      Front Disc Brake
      6-Speed Shimano Gear
      LCD Display + Cruise Control

I was a little hesitant about the high handle bars but after some investigation I understand that these are the most comfortable as the rider is positioned more upright ..... better for the back!

Does anyone know of a better eBike for around $500?

having owned and designed electrically assisted bicycles over the past 15 years, I'll add my two pence...

Looks like a good package, shame it will need to be registered as a moped in the european union...

You'll need registration, insurance, a licence and to wear a motorcycle helmet...

        other than that...

I bought my first one [a Yamaha] when I got done for DD 15 yrs ago, to do a 30ml round trip every day to work...

After the first month I started buying some classic bikes for the weekend, and soon as I was fit I realised it was faster to use those for the commute as well...

I now ride a 1970 Moulton Mk3 as my main ride and have 6/7 other Mk1, Mk2 and a spaceframe Pashley Moulton as well...

Although they still work, I haven't ridden any electric bikes for at least 2 years...

have a look at some of the classic bikes, it doesn't take long to get into condition...

I've looked into that matter and from what I can gather its very grey at the moment. I know a couple of guys that have Chinese electric / peddle scooters and it seems, here at least, that registration and insurance is not required although I understand that a motorbike helmet is but again is only sensible to have head protection in case of a collision.

The head protection that appeals to me is the Hovding bicycle airbags which is claiming to offer three times more protection than a standard bicycle helmet. http://www.hovding.com/
