I know this topic really depends on ones preference towards operating systems. None the less, I am looking to get some intel on what system other people use and what kind of software they use (hardrive, ram size, graphic/video card size etc..) i'm not to knowledgeable on the subject and am looking to upgrade from my crappy old laptop to a desktop any advice?
thanks..... cheers

Hi Josh and welcome.
I'd suggest that you try out a Mac before jumping in. Also keep in mind that Mac can also run windows but its a good idea to have a USB keyboard when using.

Firstly what do you plan to use it for?
And secondly how much $$$ do you have to spend?

I have a Mac Book Pro Retinal display. I find that the Retinal display is NOT good for SU. it looks great but the image is so fine that selection is hard to see. Also some Ruby controls are practically unusable on this screen. I don't care too much as I use a monitor when doing serious SU work. Otherwise great machine, and hookup with large monitor and other devices is near flawless. Never have to fiddle with it.
The performance for what rendering SW you use may determine more whether PC or Mac.

Hi guys thanks for the welcome. I use twilight render but this also brings up other questions
I don't see twilight being advertised anymore as much as let's say indigo or v-Ray. What do you use? As for software the sketchup site has a requirements page so it's probably good to meet them or go above and beyond. I plan on doing high quality rendering for landscape design ( residential) and possibly some animations.
