Firefox and the Board

I don't know if this is a board thing or what.
I am using FireFox 19.02. Let me say upfront I hate Tabs in Firefox, but anyway...
I have set my preference not to use tabs but when I view an image on these forums, it creates a tab. I get tabs called "file.php(JPEG Image...)" building up in the background. I have to go through and close them all after using the forums.
I know. "life is tough". but is this how it's supposed to work?

Images should open in a "lightbox" (a sort of fancy popup so fashionable nowadays) on the forums. In fact, I think this lightbox is supposed to be (or be regarded) a new window so maybe that's the problem.
If there are more images attached to a post, you can browse through the whole series from this lightbox as there is a "next" (and "previous") arrow as well.
