On http://www.sketchupartists.org, I seen the work of Alex Hogrefe http://alexhogrefe.squarespace.com/blog/2012/8/19/the-painted-look.html and i seen other tutorials in his site very interesting.
In particular this tutorial http://alexhogrefe.squarespace.com/blog/2012/9/9/sketches-part-2-extended.html.
I tried to do the same thing with a simple model and i found the result interesting.
