Just reading about the possibility of a 13.3" MBP Retina with 2560 x 1600 resolution coming in the Fall. Now this throws a spanner in the works for me as I was contemplating the purchase of a 15" MBP Retina.

Currently I use a 17" MBP with 1920 x 1200. The main reason I went with the 17" was because of the resolution. When I saw they were cutting the 17" from the line up I was initially upset but after some thought realise that it made sense. Its not screen size that it most important in a laptop, its resolution and portability. You just need to sit a little closer a samll screen!

I imagine the 13.3" will be popular as it will offer still very good resolution, just 200 less in height and 320 less in width than the 15" MBP Retina. I also image the started price will be much more affordable, a key factor. Other manufactures have a ways to catchup now!

I also read that Samsung will be one of the manufactures of the new 13.3" screens ...... I wonder how they feel about the $billion+ judgment against them in favor of Apple ...... mmmmmm ....... now how may 13.3" retina screens would a billion $ pay for 😕

      Mike,

I'm in the same boat, I was going to go to the 13" MacAir but pulled up short based of a discussion about the graphics card in new Mac Air's - My 2010 Mac Air 11 has a Nvidia card and it runs Sketchup without any problem. But the new Mac Air model no longer have Nvidia So then I was looking at the 15" MacPro Retina, but now I'm excited about the new 13" MacPro.

You are my go to guy for MAC/Sketchup and MAC in general ( Thank you for your efforts - and keep it up ) So any insight as to the best new MAC choice for speed, Sketch-up and ease of portability would be appreciate.

Life is to important to take seriously

        Just a thought
Can you explain how a such vast resolution, having a so low quality GPU can serve us? In a 3d world I mean.
BTW Already an issue on using zbrush. (for a deferent reason, zb doesn't use GPU)

I got a 13" MB Air a few weeks ago, still not sure if 13" is too small. If your going to be doing any real work on it I would suggest a 15".

Mmmmm, we will have to wait and see what the 13.3" feels like.

We are dealing with Mac laptops here, not desktops. Over the past few years laptops have become so good that many folks have opted for them in preference to iMacs and even Mac Pros. Ideally an iMac or Mac Pro currently, for the real power users, should be the choice of machine.

I don't think screen size is the main consideration. Take the iPad for example. I think I could work quite happily using this for SketchUp if it was available. My eye to screen distance would be approx. 12" or less.

I think there is a graphic users market for a 12" iPad with high res and a power chip. If they could keep the weight down it would be a winner.

Such a device would in effect be bringing the design process back to the pencil and pad experience, one that we all feel comfortable with and is most natural.

              Mike;
Now - almost a year after your last post on this, I'm contemplating the new Macbook Air with the i7 processor vs the MBPro - mainly for the ultra long battery life. Do you have any input on that comparison?

              Thx,
              Marc

Do you guys use a mouse on MBP or Mac air or gestures?
