I've recently posted several designs to the 3D Warehouse, and I find myself checking the number of views and downloads my sketches receive. It's nice to know that someone out there wants to see what I've done. Traffic (if you can call two or three views per day traffic) for some designs shows inexplicable spikes. I wish I could figure out why there's sudden spurts of interest in, say an Empire arm chair or a Mission slant-front desk.

Any thoughts? Could there be a spate of desire for period furniture among architects and designers? People building pieces from my sketches? Sunspots?

      Best,
      David Heim

Not sure, but I've had the same spikes in downloads on models I've uploaded as well. Just my opinion, but I think there are bots that troll the WH and download content or aggregate search results on other sites. Can't think of any other reason for it.

It's either bots, or sunspots, or HGTV modelers 😆

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

Bots get my vote, with sunspots a close second. Well within the margin of error.

I admit it, it's me. 😆 I susbscribe to the SCF Woodworking collection RSS feed, so I frequently click the links back to the original model.

              Hi

                Aha!
So, now that you've fessed up, what do you think of the models?

                  Hi David,

They are all nice looking models, but I have not had a close look at them. Would you like a full report? 😄

                  Hi

Absolutely! I hate working in a vacuum, and crave feedback.
                    Thanks,
                    dh

Ok, starting with the most recent - Shaker Trestle Table

                      0045.png

The Good - the model is scaled correctly, and well organized using Components. There is no stray or hidden geometry floating around the model. The model contained no unused materials, components, Layers, etc (Purge All).

                      0046.png

The Bad - You have some missing faces on the legs, some ugly smoothing on the legs, and the model seems a bit heavy at 373 KB size on disk - less detail (fewer circle and arc segments) is required on the legs and more symmetrical Components could be used to reduce file size.

                      0044.png

                      0050.png

                      0048.png

Running ThomThom's Cleanup removed 40 superfluous Edges, and reduce file size slightly.

                        Jim,
Many thanks for taking the time to look at the model so closely. Good points to remember for future modeling.
