Archimedes' screw
-
Hi,
I'm new to using sketchy physics, but am excited about the possibilities. That being said, I am having a few difficulties animating my Archimedies screw. I can get the screw to rotate, but when I add a sphere to try and make it roll up, the thread just passes through the ball (or the ball through the thread...). I cannot work out the correct combination of settings to animate the ball.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Pete(attached is the model so far)

The problem here are shapes, you used cylinder and convexhull, those can't work as a screw, what you need to do is build a screw and hull out of grouped boxes.
Example: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b04c95f456cdf164b48529c4dbb2f193&prevstart=12
Delete some of the balls so it will run smoother -
Thanks very much, I'll check it out

Hi Mr K.,
I took your advice (I think) and rebuilt the screw. The casing and thread are now both made out of the solid floor feature, and all of the animation settings are the same as in the example model you suggested to look at. I still have the problem that the ball passes through either the casing or the thread depending on how i play with the animation settings. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Pete
