Any idea to manage a hook cable?

I'm SPing the Lynx crane http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=efffd66f7e4ea1d8b2dfe239acb387ee&prevstart=0 from Smike.Almost finished, would be happy to have your opinion also but I would like to know how to manage the hook and it's cable. Static actually.

Well here is a slightly updated version of your crane:

Actually had some time and made a small script for the cable, turns out it's pretty straight forward when extending in one direction.
Not perfect tho, needs fine tuning to make all the geometry fit, but it's not all too noticeable.
